Scholarship to honor former UCO liberal arts professor
University of Central Oklahoma alumnus and retired Navy Commander Craig Morin recently established an endowed scholarship in the UCO College of Liberal Arts to honor his former humanities professor, the late Vivian Lanier.

Nigh featured next in UCO’s leadership seminar series
George Nigh, both a former governor of Oklahoma and president of the University of Central Oklahoma, will share his personal experience and insight on what makes leadership last a lifetime during “Lunch with a Leader” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Oklahoma Room (Room 211) located in Oklahoma State University’s Student Center in Stillwater.

17 UCO students initiated into elite Greek honor society
Edmond residents Lindsey Hanna, Tiffanee Cabrera, Jay Adams and Aubrey Frazier were among 17 students recently initiated into the University of Central Oklahoma's Order of Omega chapter, a national honor society recognizing the top three percent of students in Greek fraternities and sororities based on scholastic achievement, leadership and participation.

The University of Central Oklahoma had the grand opening for its new Confucius Classroom, a classroom dedicated to Chinese learning, Oct. 21 in the Pegasus Theater, located in Central’s Liberal Arts Building, with a lecture on U.S.–China relations from world-renowned Confucian scholar and author Henry Rosemont Jr.

The University of Central Oklahoma’s Office of Commuter Student Services recently formed a new partnership with the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments to merge Central’s GreenRide with Oklahoma City’s GetAroundOK to provide the Central community with more carpool and rideshare options.

UCO puts on annual ‘Shack-a-Thon’
Cardboard boxes will become the University of Central Oklahoma’s newest on-campus housing as students brave the elements to raise poverty awareness at Central’s annual “Shack-a-thon,” Oct. 25-29, just one of a series of events that are a part of Poverty Awareness Week on campus.
Student teams will live in “shacks” surrounding Broncho Lake on campus, panhandling for change and working with limited resources, to give the campus community a glimpse at how the homeless population lives.

Langston University class to hold 50th anniversary reunion
The Langston University class of 1959 will meet for their 50th anniversary class reunion during homecoming festivities on Oct. 15-17 on the main campus at Langston. The reunion activities will include a reception immediately following the game and reserved seating at the game for all members of the freshmen class of ’55 and senior class of ’59 who register for the reunion.

OSU veterinary students take part in international meeting
STILLWATER — Two students from Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences recently participated in the 58th annual International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA) World Summer Congress. Jennifer Lu of Edmond and Natalie Rankins of Coweta were among 80 veterinary student delegates from around the world who attended the meeting, which was held in Poland.
