UCO Alumni Association honors 5

Special to The Sun

EDMOND The University of Central Oklahoma Alumni Association will recognize five 2009 Distinguished Former Student honorees at the annual Central Homecoming DFS Reception at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 2 in the Nigh University Center.

This year’s line-up of distinguished UCO graduates includes Martha Burger, senior vice president of Human Corporate Resources at Chesapeake Energy Corp.; Danny Morgan, leader of the Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus; Tom Price Jr., senior vice president for Corporate Development at Chesapeake Energy Corp.; Randall Stephenson, executive officer, president and chairman of the board for AT&T and Max Tuepker; principal of his own law firm in Oklahoma City, Max C. Tuepker P.C.

A committee of UCO alumni board members selected the recipients based on peer recommendations and notable accomplishments in one of three categories: professional, community service, and university service.

The Alumni Association has given the awards annually since the inception of the program in 1952.

“Each year we are truly humbled by the caliber of our Central alumni nominations,” said Al Jones, director of the UCO Alumni Association.

“These men and women are making a tremendous impact in the communities they serve and Homecoming provides us with the perfect opportunity to honor their hard work and accomplishments.”

At the reception, the association will also honor the Mack Wedel family as the 2009 Central Family of the Year. The award is given annually to a family who has a long line of members who have attended and/or graduated from UCO and continue to stay involved with the university.

Also among the reception honorees, Dan Smith, UCO’s campus photographer, will receive the John and Maxine Kessler Spirit Award, which is presented each year to an individual who exhibits a strong devotion to the university through their work and/or involvement.

The reception will include a formal awards presentation with video highlights of the honorees’ lifetime accomplishments as well as an opportunity to reconnect with alumni.

TICKETS ARE $20 a person and can be purchased by calling the UCO Alumni Association at 974-2421. For a complete listing of UCO Homecoming activities, visit www.uco.edu/alumni.
