17 UCO students initiated into elite Greek honor society

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND Edmond residents Lindsey Hanna, Tiffanee Cabrera, Jay Adams and Aubrey Frazier were among 17 students recently initiated into the University of Central Oklahoma's Order of Omega chapter, a national honor society recognizing the top three percent of students in Greek fraternities and sororities based on scholastic achievement, leadership and participation.

“Order of Omega is a great way to recognize some of our best and brightest students. It’s a privilege for us to welcome 17 new students this semester, and we are glad they have accepted membership into the honor society,” said Jessica Schwab, Order of Omega advisor and assistant director of Greek Life and Student Organizations at Central.

The new members include Cabrera and Hanna, Alpha Xi Delta; Adams, Pi Kappa Alpha; Frazier, Alpha Gamma Delta; Jennifer Burris of Broken Arrow, Alpha Xi Delta; Laura Parsons of Oklahoma City, Alpha Xi Delta; Chase Moore of Norman, Pi Kappa Alpha; John David McFarlin of Tulsa, Pi Kappa Alpha; Logan Pennington of Oklahoma City, Pi Kappa Alpha; Elizabeth Le of Mustang, Delta Zeta; Brittany Smith of Stillwater, Delta Zeta; Hunter Scott of Minco, Sigma Tau Gamma; Darren Dupus of Prague, Sigma Tau Gamma; Vanessa Canfield of Oklahoma City, Alpha Gamma Delta; Ryan Taylor of Oklahoma City, Sigma Nu and Tabitha Terrell of Oklahoma City, Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Cole Stanley, assistant vice president of Student Affairs and alum member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and Kortnie Napier, Greek Life graduate assistant and alum member of Delta Sigma Theta were selected by student members of Order of Omega and invited to join the honor society as alumnae initiates.

The decision to extend membership to a student is dependent on several factors including character, scholarship, offices held, Greek participation and service to the local community and Central.

Only three percent of students who are affiliated with a Greek organization and who are junior level students or above may be accepted each academic year.

Order of Omega colonized at Central in 2005, and continues to recognize elite leaders in the Greek community.

Order of Omega strives to promote excellence in academics, leadership and character, and students who exemplify the characteristics are offered membership in the organization.
