EDMOND —
George and Fern Rowley of Edmond, Okla., will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with family and friends during a come and go reception from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at Touchmark at Coffee Creek.
George A. Rowley and Fern Doll met while attending school in Ringwood, Okla. During their courtship, when gasoline was rationed for automobiles, George rode a horse for nine miles to visit and ultimately impress Fern.
George and Fern exchanged wedding vows on December 21, 1946 in Enid, Okla. at the home of Dr. Dan Luther Edwards, minister.
George retired as the superintendent of Edmond Public Schools in 1988, and has enjoyed traveling to every state in the Union. He is a passionate reader, and he and Fern have continued their work with the Retired Educators Association.
Fern, who taught elementary music in Edmond Public Schools, also retired in 1988. She enjoys cooking, and as a talented pianist since high school, Fern serves as the musical accompanist for the Golden Harmonizers Senior Choir.
George and Fern belong to the First Presbyterian Church and enjoy staying involved in the community. While the couple has many shared interests and activities together, George and Fern firmly support each other’s individual endeavors.
The Rowleys have four children: son Jerry and his wife Linda of Stillwater; son Kenny Dean of Tulsa, son Robert and his wife Carl of Edmond, and daughter Valli Rallis and husband Gus also of Edmond.
George and Fern are blessed with six grandchildren, Michael and Leslie Rowley, Maya Castille, Heather and David Rowley and Adam Rowley, and 14 great-grandchildren.
