EDMOND —
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stringer of Perry, Okla., will celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the First Christian Church located at 7th and Holly Streets in Perry.
Bob Stringer and the former Velta Allen were married August 28, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Edmond, Okla., officiated by Reverend O.W. Reece. Both are graduates of Edmond High School and both attended Central State College (University of Central Oklahoma) from where Mr. Stringer graduated. He served as a former commander at American Legion Post 111 in Edmond, and was a Boy Scout leader.
Mr. Stringer joined the National Guard 179th Headquarters in Edmond and went to Korea. He later joined the 158th Field Artillery and retired as a Sgt. Major. He also retired in 1993 from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after 50 years of service. At the time of his retirement he served as Division Four engineer in Perry. He worked on the original plan for the Crosstown in Oklahoma City, and Interstate 35 from Texas to the Kansas state line.
He is a 32nd degree Mason and former Rotarian. As an active member of the community, he served on the Perry Memorial Hospital Foundation, as director of Exchange Bank and Trust Company, the Cherokee Strip Museum and served on the First Christian Church building committee for their new addition.
Both are retired elders of First Christian Church where Mrs. Stringer is a member of the Church Women’s Group, a former Sunday School teacher and pianist and formerly served on the worship committee and the executive board of the CWF . She also is a 10-year member of the Family, Home and Community Education association, a past golden Circle FHCE group, and is a 60 year member of the Eastern Star.
Both are members of the Order of Amaranth.
They are the parents of one daughter, the late Karon Byford of Duncan; two sons, Wes Stringer of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Larry Stringer of Owasso, Okla. The couple’s grandchildren are Regina Howell and husband Davey, Dana Stringer and Ethan Stringer; great-grandchildren are Allison Howell and Dalton Howell, and great-great-grandchildren are Stephanie and Codi Howell.
