EDMOND —
The family of Mildred and David Nelson invite friends to join them for a reception from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 in honor of the couple’s 70th wedding anniversary.
Mildred was introduced to David by her stepbrother Lonnie Peck at a party in Oklahoma City in April, 1941. At that time, David was stationed at Fort Sill where he was training to be an artillery radioman. They were married 8 months later on Jan. 31, 1942. The couple endured the hardships and poverty of early marriage with gusto, living in a converted chicken coop and barely having a plate to eat on. David was sent to Europe with his unit sometime in 1944 and the next 18 months would be the only time they would be apart for the next 70 years.
Their secret to success has been a total dedication to God and family, and not forgetting their humble beginnings. This unique couple have touched the lives of so many in a very positive way.
Celebrating with David and Mildred will be their daughter Elizabeth Conley; daughter LaVon Burnett and husband Joe; son David Nelson and wife Ann, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
