EDMOND —
Bill and Glenda Allen of Coppell, Texas, formerly of Edmond, Okla., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 10, 2010.
Bill and Glenda met while attending the ninth grade at Stigler High School, and began dating during their junior year. Immediately after graduation, both moved to Oklahoma City. Glenda moved in with friends and began working at St. Anthony Hospital; Bill moved in with his brother and his family and started working at a local gas station.
On September 10, 1960, they were joined in marriage and shortly afterward they moved to Wichita, Kan. to start a family. While working at Boeing and attending technical school, Bill and Glenda had two children. After three years in Wichita, the family moved to Pampa, Texas, then in 1965 they moved to Oklahoma City where Bill took a job with Sperry Univac. They moved to Edmond in 1967 and raised their two sons. In 1998 they moved from Edmond to Coppell, Texas.
Bill and Glenda are currently enjoying their retirement years together. Bill loves to fish and spend time working on the ranch, and Glenda loves to shop and spend time with family.
The couple has two sons, Bill Allen and his wife Lynn of Edmond, and Terry Allen and his wife Laurie, of Washington D.C. Bill and Glenda greatly treasure time spent with their seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
Their son Bill attributes the success of their marriage to unending patience, living a Christian lifestyle and being there for one another. “Fifty years of marriage is a great accomplishment,” he said. “They still love each other as much today as they did when they first started dating. Happy 50th Anniversary, Mom and Dad. We love you!”
