Bruce and Ruthanne Love of Edmond, Okla. will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Friday evening with a dinner hosted by Beau and Carol Schwabe and their daughters Mikayla and Gabrielle.
Bruce Webster Love and Ruthanne Cooper were married June 29, 1952 at First United Brethren Church, Canton, Ohio. The father of the groom, Rev. Dr. Julian Price Love, presided the ceremony.
Bruce met Ruthanne in 1947 while attending the College of Wooster, in Wooster, Ohio. They continued to date through their graduation in 1950 and maintained a long-distance relationship while Bruce was in graduate school at the University of Kansas, and Ruthanne was at graduate school at Northwestern University. They became engaged in 1951 during their internships in Colorado and were married six months later.
Bruce served as city manager in Slater, Mo. and Royal Oak, Mich., before moving to Edmond in 1976. He worked as the director of operations for the University of Oklahoma Heath Sciences Center in Oklahoma City until his retirement in 1992. His hobbies have included singing with the OKChorale, Men’s Barbershop Chorus, and volunteering with the Edmond Historical Society and Edmond Book Club.
Ruthanne was a third grade teacher in Slater, Mo., before raising three children with Bruce. She has been a member of P.E.O. Chapter ES in Edmond and has served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond. Ruthanne also participated as a leader with Edmond’s Bible Study Fellowship, OU Health Sciences Center Faculty Wives Club, Good Books Club and Edmond Book Club.
Bruce and Ruthanne have two sons, one daughter and six granddaughters: son David and his wife Janet Love and their daughter Elizabeth of Glenview, Ill.; son John and his wife Shannon Love of Round Rock, Texas, and their daughters Katie Wikstrom, and Mallory and Colleen Love; and daughter Carol and her husband Beau Schwabe, and their daughters Mikayla and Gabrielle Schwabe of Edmond.
