Gorrells to celebrate 60th anniversary

EDMOND —     John and Dena Gorrell of Edmond, Okla. will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, Thursday, November 14, 2013. A reception will be from 2 - 4 p.m., Saturday, November 9th at the First United Methodist Church in Edmond, hosted by their family.

    John grew up in Dover, Okla., and Dena grew up in Loyal, Okla. They met while both attending Oklahoma State University.

John Sterling Gorrell and Dena Ruth Groenewold were married on November 14, 1953, at the Loyal Methodist Church in Loyal, Okla. Rev. Wallace Linton officiated.

    Both John and Dena graduated from OSU; John with a Bachelors degree and Dena with an Associates degree.

    John then served in the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Oklahoma after being in the Army, the couple resided in Hennessey, Enid, Woodward and then settled in Edmond, where they have lived for the past 44 years.

    John went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters Degree and used his education to work for the State of Oklahoma in Children’s Services until he retired in 1988.

    Dena was a homemaker and is a published award-winning poet.

    John and Dena have two children; Jim, who died in 1995, and Deanne Moore, who lives in Oklahoma City, Okla., with her husband, Shawn. John and Dena have two granddaughters living in Oklahoma City.
