EDMOND —
Lester and Sharon Nowell of Edmond, Okla., commemorated their 50th wedding anniversary with a celebration July 28 hosted by their children, Mark and Crystal Nowell.
Lester Dale Nowell and Sharon Kay Billingsley were married August 3, 1962, in Hugo, Okla. They met the first time when Sharon was 15. They met again when Sharon was 18, dated twice, and then eloped.
Lester spent 20 years in the Navy and 20 years as a harbor pilot in Long Beach, Calif. Sharon traveled the world with her husband, and enjoys shopping.
Lester enjoys gardening and loves to cook, and is well known for his barbecue ribs.
The couple have two children, Mark Nowell of Oklahoma City and Crystal Nowell of Edmond. They are blessed with two grandchildren, Blythe and Brenna.
Lester and Sharon’s daughter, Crystal, believes the secret to her parents long marriage is the pure dedication and care they share with each other.
