Larry and Shirley Wilson of Edmond, Okla. will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary February 1, 2014.
The couple met while attending college at Southwestern Panhandle State University and exchanged wedding vows February 1, 1964 in Watonga, Okla.
After serving in the Army, Larry worked for Southwestern Bell for 26 years and the Oklahoma Tax Commission for 20 years. Retirement keeps him busy with running a cattle ranch, working with the Red Earth Festival and serving on the board for Communication Federal Credit Union.
Shirley enjoys being a homemaker. She taught dance and art and served as a substitute teacher. She and Jim make it a point to exercise together.
Shirley and Larry raised two sons, the late Gregg Wilson and Kent Wilson. The couple especially enjoys spending time with Gregg’s wife Joanna and grandson Kincannon and Kent and his wife, Jeni, and their two children, Courtney and Ethan.
The Wilsons attribute the success of their marriage to living in the Christian faith, having a strong commitment to each other and the willingness to forgive, and sharing a good sense of humor.
