Mackenzie Martin, an eighth-grade student, volunteers for Orphaned Angels, a nonprofit animal rescue in Edmond. They operate solely on donations and recently had their checkbook stolen and several hot checks written on the account. Martin reached out to the school’s Friends of Rachel group to make a difference. The school hosted a pajama day, where students could pay $1 to wear their PJs. They also could guess the amount of jelly beans in a jar for $1 per guess. The winner, eighth-grader Josh Robertson, took home the jelly beans, dispenser and a $25 iTunes card. His guess of 560 was only two away from the correct count of 558. Martin presented Orphaned Angels director Crystal Maib with a $402 check. Also pictured is principal Jason Galloway.
