Vets 4 Vets helps veterans, families

EDMOND When two former Gulf War veterans decided to do something for veterans and their families they really didn’t know where to start, but they knew what they wanted to accomplish.

Steve Motsinger and Gerald Buckles, both members of the Unit 1st of 158th Field Artillary MLRS Battallion, wanted to help other veterans, and since January they have worked to create a veterans’ organization.

“We decided from the beginning we wanted to do something that was money driven and generated by the private sector, not by vets,” Buckles said.

Vets4Vets was started to unite all veterans and their immediate family members under one umbrella through a Web site and member services program.

“This gives opportunities to support those (who) support us and also allows a significant revenue stream from the private business sector to be donated to worthwhile veteran causes.

Vets4Vets will never be politically active.

“We do, however, encourage members to participate in the political process, and we help them accomplish that by providing an e-mail link with access to every House and Senate member in the United States.”

Vets4Vets’ mission is five-pronged including initiating special services and discounts for veterans and their families, assisting veteran charities and assisting veterans and their families with special needs.

At this time Vets4Vets is local, but plans include expanding to all 50 states.

The Web site also includes the latest veteran news and featured stories.

“Veterans will simply present their Vets4Vets membership card, which can be purchased for $25, to a Member Business, either online or at the business, and then they can take advantage of the benefits offered to them,” Buckles said.

A portion of the $25 membership fee will go to the charity of the veteran’s or veteran’s family member’s choice.
