Tickets on sale for ‘The Miracle Worker’

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND Three performances of “The Miracle Worker” starring 17 fifth- through 12th-graders and presented by the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond will be at 7 p.m. Friday and 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma Christian Academy, 1101 E. Ninth St. in Edmond.

“The Miracle Worker” is under the direction of Peggy Hoshall, a local actress and director, who has experience working in children’s theatre.

“Her productions are professional and entertaining,” said Mitzi Hancuff, FAI executive director. “She always brings the natural talent forward from the cast members.”

The cast includes Andrew Seldenrust, doctor; Kinsey Smith, Kate; Austin Ratcliff, Mr. Keller; Emma McCalmont, Helen; Emily Hughes, Martha; Charles Sanders, Percy; Jessie Roark, Aunt Ev; Joe Epperson, James; Joel Schimek, Anagnos; Sara Patterson, Annie Sullivan; Katie Adams, Viney; Rachel Seldenrust, Lexi Morgan, Jenna Sitter, M.G. Hirsch, Jordan Long and Kathryn Rykard as the blind children; and Rachel Seldenrust, Kathryn Rykard and Lexi Morgan also as the Crones.

“The Miracle Worker” is a rendition of the story of Annie Sullivan’s journey to bring Helen Keller out of her own world and help her “see” with her hands and “hear” with her heart. If Annie can just get the meaning of one word into her head and the understanding, Helen will be able to learn anything. Helen’s parents go through a great deal of heartache before Annie’s arrival.

This adaptation has been written specifically for a youth production with many roles.

The goal for the Fine Arts Institute’s children’s play is to help young people experience the arts through drama and to discover the world of expression.

“The annual children’s play is always a fun event at the Fine Arts Institute. Excitement is high during that last week of rehearsals,” Hancuff said.

“Audiences love the live performances.”

Support comes from the Oklahoma Arts Council and Target Stores.

Reservations are $5 and are available at the Fine Arts Institute or from cast members. For information or reservations, call 340-4481.
