EDMOND Tickets on sale for Neil Diamond concert

Legendary singer, songwriter and performer Neil Diamond will return to the stage, bringing his North American concert tour to Oklahoma City’s Ford Center on Oct. 19.

Tickets are on sale and may be purchased at the U.S. Army Box Office at the Ford Center, all Ticketmaster locations, by calling 235-8288, 360-7776, 580-357-3184 or 918-587-2322, or online at ticketmaster.com.



Morefield to play in concert with Oklahoma City Philharmonic

Shaelynn Morefield, a junior at Edmond North High School, is one of 29 students selected to play in the Side-by-Side concert sponsored by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.

The Side-by-Side concert is an annual event and musicians from the Oklahoma Youth Symphony and the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra audition for the coveted seating in the Philharmonic. The students will play alongside the professional members of the orchestra at the concert Tuesday at the Civic Center.

Morefield, who has been a member of the OYS for four years, won the student principle chair position for flute. She also is the principle flute for the OYS. She is an award-winning flutist and just returned from the national competition for the Music Teachers National Association where she was a finalist — one of 39 out of 1,800 competitors.

Morefield has been studying flute for seven years and studies with Natalie Syring. She plans a career in flute performance.



Tickets for ‘Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh’ on sale Tuesday

“Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh,” a new live stage show for the entire family, performs Sept. 7 at the Ford Center. Tickets for the show go on sale Tuesday.

Tickets for “Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh” are available online at www.okfordcenter.com or by phone at 235-8288, and all Ticket-master outlets including the U.S. Army Box Office at the Ford Center and select Macy’s, Suncoast and FYE stores.



2008 OK City Star Contest to hold auditions

The 2008 OK City Star Competition will hold open auditions Thursday at Crossroads Mall Community Room.

The contest, organized and hosted by Allied Arts member agency OK City Chorus of Sweet Adelines, is designed to help young singers develop their talents and earn prizes in the process.

All singers between the ages of 16-25 are eligible to enter. Callbacks will be Friday at the Center Stage of Crossroads. A panel of judges will select a group of singers to compete in semi-finals on June 7 at Crossroads’ Center Stage where 10 singers will advance to the finals on June 14 at a site to be determined.

The winner of the 2008 OK City Star will earn $500 cash plus another $2,000 in Visa gift cards through Crossroads Mall. In addition, the winner will have a song composed for him and professionally recorded at the Kent Jones Studio, then aired on KOMA Radio. Second- and third-prize winners will earn $250 and $100 respectively and each of the remaining seven semi-finalists will receive $50 in cash.

EAA Spring Art Show slated for Saturday

Watercolorist Cletus Smith will be the featured artist at Edmond Art Association’s Member Spring Art Show, “Painting the Town.” The show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Spring Creek Plaza, 15th and Bryant, Edmond.

A 1964 graduate of Oklahoma City University with a degree in art, Smith has worked as a commercial artist, illustrator, industrial designer, teacher and as a fine artist. Smith is represented in galleries in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — as well as in Oklahoma. His work is included in the State of Oklahoma art collection.

A highlight of the show will be a “Painting the Town” booth for art depicting or relating to the City of Edmond.

Men’s a capella group goes for the gold

Music Central, a nonprofit men’s singing organization, is looking for men who love to perform for audiences and who would love to participate in an upcoming competition.

Music Central is a past district (5-state area) champion and was chosen as one of the top 20 choruses at the International competition in 1999.
