Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre opens its 12th Season with the production of Godspell. CityRep will be partnering with the University of Central Oklahoma’s Department of Musical Theatre for this production.
Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew and featuring a score by Stephen Schwartz, composer of “Wicked,” Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs led by the international hit, “Day By Day.” A hit revival on Broadway last year, this musical brings the parables of Jesus Christ to life.
Starring in the CityRep/UCO production is Lane Fields (Tuesdays with Morrie, A Year with Frog and Toad, The Big Bang, Next to Normal) as Jesus. Also featured are Caleb Baze (The Great American Trailer Park Musical), Michael Stewart (Zombie Prom, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and Lexi Windsor (Little Me, Meshuggah- Nuns, The 39 Steps). Debuting in CityRep are: Jamard Richardson as John the Baptist/Judas, Dia Baker, JaLeesa Beavers, Phoebe Butts, Jordan DeBose, Cody Dent, Chelsea Clark, Garret Haley, Larz Hoban, Sarah Johnson, Chelsea Larsen and Vahn Phollurxa.
Godspell is directed by Jonathan Beck Reed; musical direction is by Chuck Koslowske; choreography is by Steven Smeltzer; set design is by Amanda Foust; costume design is by Andy Wallach; lighting design is by Taylor Knight; sound design is by Jerome Stevenson and Steve Emerson; and properties design and hair and makeup design is by Suzette Collins Sroufe. Steve Emerson is the Production Stage Manager.
Godspell will be presented in the Freede Little Theatre in the Civic Center Music Hall at 201 N. Walker in downtown Oklahoma City. Tickets are $8 for Stu- dents, Teachers and Military Personnel (with ID), $20 (groups of eight or more), $30 (matinees) and $35 (evening performances), and may be purchased by calling the Civic Center Music Hall Box Office at 297-2264 or 1-800-364-7111, or by calling the CityRep Ticket Hotline at 848-3761. Performance dates are Sept. 27, through Sept.29.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are at 1:30 p.m.
