Special to The Sun
OKLA. CITY —
The Oklahoma State Fair Creative Arts Program offers a large number of contests each year for adults and children to participate in during the annual State Fair. Categories range from photography to fine arts to hobbies to cooking to needlecraft to antiques. All creative arts contests are free to enter as long as registration has been received before the Aug. 15 deadline.
This year, the State Fair is offering a day of courses to introduce fairgoers to creative arts and teach them the skills needed to participate in many of the competitive areas. “Take pART in the Fair” will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8 in the Hobbies, Arts and Crafts Building at State Fair Park. Participation is free but space is limited and pre-registration is required. For registration and complete information, go to www.okstatefair.com/competition/arts-crafts/ or call the Creative Programs department at 948-6731.
The classes available to the public include Watercolor & Basic Drawing; Polymer Clay Jewelry; Cooking: Desserts & Appetizers; Hand Embroidery; Ceramics: Coil Pots; and Digital Photography. Some classes require basic supplies. For those classes, kits will be available to purchase for $5.
The Oklahoma State Fair runs Sept. 12 through Sept. 22. For more information, go online to www.okstatefair.com or to fairslice.net — the official blog of State Fair Park.
