Special to The Sun
The University of Central Oklahoma’s Broadway Tonight Series will close its season with a one-man show featuring Tony Award-winner Gregg Edelman at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 in Mitchell Hall Theater, located on Central’s campus.
“Gregg Edelman is one of Broadway’s foremost leading men,” said Greg White, director and producer of the Broadway Tonight Series.
Edelman has performed in more than a dozen Broadway musicals and has won four Tony Awards in the category of Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his work in “Into the Woods,” “1776,” “Anna Karenina” and “City of Angels.”
Edelman also has made a splash in television and film with roles such as Doctor Davis in “Spiderman 2,” Richard Pierce in “Little Children,” Dr. Melvoin in “30 Rock” and Dr. Lucas in “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.”
“Gregg just has one of those personalities that sophisticatedly and subtly conveys emotion, depth and understanding,” White said.
Edelman will perform his critically acclaimed one-man show “Broadway State of Mind,” a production consisting of a variety of recognizable Broadway tunes and classics from the “Great American Songbook.”
“Gregg is a fantastic interpreter of the lyric,” White said.
In between songs, Edelman also will share with the audience stories about his experiences on Broadway.
During his visit, Edelman will teach a master class with musical theatre students.
Tickets for “Broadway State of Mind” are $25 and can be purchased by calling the Mitchell Hall Theater Box Office at 974-3375 or visiting www.cliack4tix.com/uco.
