The University of Central Oklahoma’s Artist-in-Residence Valery Kuleshov will join Central faculty and students to present the College of Fine Arts and Design’s annual fundraising concert “Valery and Friends” at 7 p.m. April 3 at the UCO Jazz Lab, located at 100 E. Fifth St. in Edmond.
An award-winning and honored artist of the Russian Federation, Kuleshov will perform Robert Schumann’s “Fantasy Pieces for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 73” with internationally recognized professor of clarinet Dawn Marie Lindblade.
Kuleshov also will collaborate with Central professor of cello and world-renowned artist, Tess Remy-Schumacher, in a presentation of Sergei Rachmaninov’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 19.”
Kuleshov has toured internationally performing in New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Milan Conservatory in Italy and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Additionally, he has been awarded the Gold Medal at the Busoni International Piano Competition in 1987 and the Silver Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1993.
Central piano students Casey Cross, Luisa Matthynssens, Mackenzie Rogers, Tookah Sapper and Amber Zuniga will open the concert with a variety of performances.
“Kuleshov’s amazing artistry continues to establish his performances as sought-after events. Audiences always receive a stunning experience watching a pianist of such caliber,” said Lori Alspaugh, development director for the College of Fine Arts and Design.
Light hors d’oeuvres and spirits will be provided to guest attending the event.
