The Deer Creek High School choir and booster club will be hosting “An Intimate Evening with Kelli O’Hara” Nov. 21. O’Hara is a four-time Tony Award nominee and Broadway star.
The benefit concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Deer Creek Performing Arts and Athletic Center and will feature Oklahoma native O’Hara, a 1993 Deer Creek High School alum, who will perform Broadway tunes and other songs.
“We’re extremely honored to have Kelli performing at her alma mater,” said Grace Pierson, benefit organizer and choral music director with Deer Creek High School. “She’s an inspiration to many young artists in our state and we’re so proud of her success.”
After graduating from high school, O’Hara received a degree in opera from Oklahoma City University and won the state metropolitan opera competition. She then moved to New York, where she enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Institute and established herself as one of Broadway’s leading ladies.
O’Hara made her Broadway debut in “Jekyll & Hyde.” She also starred in the “Sweet Smell of Success” with actor John Lithgow, as well as “Dracula,” “South Pacific” and the 2006 Tony Award-winning production of “The Pajama Game” with actor Harry Connick Jr. O’Hara recently starred in “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” in which she received her fourth Tony Award nomination.
Throughout her career, O’Hara has performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops, at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, the Lincoln Center and Town Hall.
