New festival will rock Bricktown Canal

Special to The Sun

OKLA. CITY — The inaugural Rock the Boat festival on the Bricktown canal will provide free entertainment to downtown guests from noon-6 p.m. Sept. 8. Rock the Boat, the first festival of its kind, will feature live music performed by ACM@UCO students on the traveling Bricktown Water Taxis, plenty of shopping opportunities and free, family friendly activities.

Chad Huntington, manager of Water Taxi, expressed enthusiasm for the event.

“For quite some time we’ve been hoping to see more events that tie the canal more closely into the unique entertainment options in Bricktown,” Huntington said. “The canal is such a great venue by itself, and it’s exciting to see an event that focuses on it directly. This will provide a great mix of activities for locals and visitors alike, and hopefully it will spur further interest in future events and development along the canal.”

Rock the Boat offers plenty of ways to eat and play along the canal all afternoon. Local restaurants will offer food and drink specials, and stores along the canal will offer deals and discounts. Huey’s Shave Ice will serve cold treats, and guests who purchase a wristband for a Water Taxi ride receive a free snow cone, courtesy of Downtown OKC. In addition, the Spy FM will be there broadcasting live from the canal, and guests can save a few bucks with Yelp check-in deals and giveaways.

Animal lovers can visit The Central Oklahoma Humane Society booth and view a selection of pets available for adoption. OK Humane employees will be on hand to answer questions about opportunities to foster a pet or adopt one at the event.

This event is free and open to the public.
