EDMOND — University of Central Oklahoma Artist-in-Residence Valery Kuleshov will join Central music faculty to present the College of Fine Arts and Design’s annual fundraising concert, “Valery and Friends,” 6 p.m. March 31 in the Nigh University Center ballrooms, 100 N. University Drive in Edmond.

An internationally honored artist of the Russian Federation, Kuleshov has won numerous international and national awards, including a silver medal, second prize and special prize at the Ninth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Faculty performing with Kuleshov include cellist Tess Remy-Schumacher, violinist Hong Zhu and pianist David Forbat.

“This event showcases a sampling of our extremely talented and accomplished faculty,” said Deborah Baucom, development manager for CFAD.

“As individual performers, each showcased musician is a master of their craft, with international tours to their credit. As a collaborative effort, these musicians provide the rare opportunity for the Oklahoma City metropolitan community to enjoy a real powerhouse performance,” Baucom continued.

The program will include music by Frederic Chopin, Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

The concert benefits Central’s All-Steinway Initiative, which seeks to equip the university’s School of Music with high-quality pianos for students’ study of music, which in return helps students meet the high expectations of the piano faculty and enhance their individual performance levels.

“The All-Steinway Initiative is one of the many important fundraising efforts aimed at matching the excellent level of Central’s talented students and faculty to the instruments and facility that they work with,” Baucom said.

“Valery and Friends” tickets are available at two levels: $75 for “Piano Patrons,” which includes admission to the concert, a table reservation, heavy hors d’oeuvres and wine, and $25 for “Music Lovers,” which includes admission to the concert and reserved theater seating.
