EDMOND — Oklahoma County 4-H hosts chili supper and auction

Area residents are invited to attend the Oklahoma County 4-H seventh annual Chili and Bean Supper Nov. 9 at the OSU Cooperative Extension Service Auditorium, 930 N. Portland Ave., Oklahoma City.

In addition to the all-you-can-eat chili and bean supper (with all the fixings), diners will be treated to a silent auction that begins at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction at 7 p.m. The supper begins at 6:15 p.m.

At both the silent and the live auction, diners will be able to bid on items such as antique dolls, Oklahoma native art, power tools, a custom cow hide bench, lawn décor, jewelry and gift certificates to area restaurants and merchants. Proceeds from the supper and the auction go to support the Oklahoma County 4-H program.

Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for ages 6 to 12, and free for children five and under.

Tickets on sale now for International Rodeo

Tickets for the 40th International Finals Rodeo (IFR) Jan.15-17 at State Fair Arena are now on sale. Originating in Oklahoma, the IFR determines the World Champions of the International Professional Rodeo Association. The IFR offers $350,000 in prize money and awards, making it Oklahoma's largest professional rodeo.

Other activities associated with the IFR include the IFR Bucking Horse Sale, Miss Rodeo USA Pageant, Old Timers Reunion, the IPRA Convention and a western expo and trade show.

On Sunday all children receive a free cowboy hat compliments of OG&E.; Beginning one hour prior to the Sunday performance, children are invited to go onto the arena floor to experience special activities.

Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

If purchased by Jan. 8, admission for children12 and under is just $5 for the 7:30 p.m. Friday night performance and the 1:30 p.m. Saturday matinee performance (conditions apply). Community Orchestra to present “A Musical Sea Voyage”



The Oklahoma Community Orchestra will perform a concert with the theme “A Musical Sea Voyage” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Hardeman Auditorium on the campus of the Oklahoma Christian University, 2501 E. Memorial Rd.

On the heels of the sold-out premier of the “Argosy Overture,” Kyle Dillingham and Callen Clarke are launching a new symphonic work, “The Mary Rose.”

The Mary Rose, legendary Renaissance warship, sank tragically in 1545 during the Battle of the Solent and was raised in 1982 by the Alexander McKee and the Mary Rose Trust. It is the only ship of its kind to be preserved. The music will feature themes and instruments from the era to vividly evoke the beautiful and violent world of Renaissance England.

Written by Edmond composer Callen Clarke and performed by world renowned violinist Kyle Dillingham and the Oklahoma Community Orchestra, “The Mary Rose” premier will officially launch the Argosy Project, an initiative to revive symphonic music in America and the world through the creation and performance of exciting new orchestral repertoire. Representatives of the Mary Rose Trust and the new Mary Rose Museum currently under construction in the city of Portsmouth, England, are expected to be in attendance for this event.

John Fletcher will conduct the concert, which will also include: “The Flying Dutchman Overture” by Richard Wagner; “Russian Sailors Dance” by Reinhold Gliere; “Sobre Las Olas” by J. Rosas; “Argosy Overture” and “Normandie Overtures” by Callen Clark, performed by Kyle Dillingham; and “Pirates of the Caribbean; A Worlds End” by Hans Zimmer.
