EDMOND — The sixth annual Fine Arts and Literature Academic Meet will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Education Building at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Partnering with the UCO College of Education, the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond will host the meet that draws teams of the brightest Oklahoma high school students to the Edmond community. Eighteen Oklahoma high schools of all sizes have signed up to participate in the meet.
“Questions on the arts are not included in high school academic meets and we wanted to do something about that,” said Mitzi Hancuff, FAI executive director. “Six years ago, we were approached by some high school educators in Edmond and completely supported creating a meet which showcases the arts.”
Subjects covered at the meet include painters, paintings, sculptors, sculptures, authors, literature, architecture, music, composers, theater, movies, recordings, musicals, operas, dance, poetry and Oklahoma art.
Trophies will be presented to the large and small school teams that place first and second at the meet. Spirit Bank is underwriting the meet along with support from the Oklahoma Arts Council.
