Special to The Sun
The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Art will celebrate the work of its soon-to-be-graduates in the Senior Capstone Exhibition at the Istvan Gallery of Urban Art, 1218 North Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. The exhibit opens Oct. 31, with the gallery hosting a free and open-to-the-public reception from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 2.
Consisting of an array of mediums from oil paintings to mixed media to functional ceramics, this exhibit will feature the work of eight Central senior art students pending graduation this December.
“Each individual’s work reflects the evolution of their creative tendencies during their time at Central,” said Elizabeth Brown, Central associate professor of art and capstone coordinator.
Brown added that the exhibit encompasses a transformative experience of professional practice where students are expected to create a portfolio of their work, write an artist statement and install and exhibit their work in public.
“The purpose of the art department is to prepare students for a professional career in the arts, and this capstone exhibit exposes them to all the nitty-gritty aspects of showcasing your work professionally,” Brown said.
The Senior Capstone Exhibition will be on display until Nov. 3.
The Istvan Gallery of Urban Art is open from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
