Special to The Sun
The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) will sponsor an interactive garage band tent at the “Wiggle Out Loud” family music festival from 1–3 p.m. Sept. 1 in Bicentennial Park, located at 500 Couch Dr. in downtown Oklahoma City.
The garage band tent will offer children attending the festival opportunities to try playing instruments such as guitar, drums, keyboard and bass, with the assistance and supervision of ACM@UCO students. Children will be encouraged to “strike a chord” or try a riff on the drums.
“The ‘Wiggle Out Loud’ festival is a great opportunity for our students to share their love of music with the community and to act as role models for younger kids interested in music,” said Scott Booker, CEO of ACM@UCO.
“I am sure the kids will love acting as rock stars for the day,” he continued.
“Wiggle Out Loud” is a free, active-family music festival in downtown Oklahoma City that aims to get kids of all ages engaged in physical activity to establish healthy habits in their daily lives. The inaugural event will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
The festival will feature two stages of entertainment free for all festival attendees. The main stage headlining acts include The Verve Pipe, Sugar Free Allstars, and Spaghetti Eddie, among other family-friendly artists. The side stage will feature a variety of local music groups composed of children from the Oklahoma City metro community.
The “Wiggle Out Loud” festival also serves as a kick-off to National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, so local vendors will be on-site to offer a variety of healthy foods and beverages throughout the day.
