The Edmond Sun
OKLAHOMA CITY —
The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain is currently accepting online applications and scheduling auditions for the state’s premier arts academy for high school students.
Held June 15-30, the program is taught by nationally renowned artists and offers instruction in acting, creative writing, ballet, modern dance, orchestra, chorus, drawing/painting, photography and film/video.
Every accepted student automatically receives a full scholarship to the program, worth more than $3,000.
Auditions begin in January at locations across the state, including Edmond, with scheduling available at www.oaiquartz.org.
OSAI students are taught by award-winning faculty from across the U.S. Former OSAI faculty members have included winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Awards. This year's faculty includes former New York City Ballet dancer Brian Reeder and New York-based photographer Troy Word. Word has photographed world leaders and celebrities including President Obama, former President George W. Bush, Heidi Klum and Matt Damon. A native of Bartlesville, Word is an alumnus of OSAI.
“Quartz Mountain has been so incredibly instrumental in my success as an artist,” said Hayley Russell, an Edmond Memorial High School student. “From providing me with professional training to displaying my work in museums, this program has provided me with so many opportunities I would have never had.”
To attend OSAI, applicants must be enrolled in an Oklahoma public school, private school or home-school program and must be at least 15 years old by Sept. 1, 2013. Graduating seniors are eligible. Metro-area auditions will be at the University of Central Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma City Ballet.
