EDMOND Accountants chapter introduces new Web site

On April 25, Krissy Marberry, director of the Media Committee, launched the new Web site for the American Society of Women Accountants local Oklahoma City Chapter No. 44.

Features include links to the national Web site; invitations to current events; a drop-down toolbar with a calendar of future meeting dates; member contact information; and links to other useful accounting resources. The Web site is at www.aswa-okc.org.

The mission of this society is to enable women in all accounting and related fields to achieve their full personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of their profession.



AT&T introduces new iPhone text plan

The iPhone is now even more accessible for Americans who are deaf or have a hearing or speech disability. AT&T Inc. recently announced a new Text Accessibility Plan for iPhone, designed to give iPhone customers with disabilities the choice of unlimited text messaging, Web browsing and easy access to e-mail for $40 a month.

This new plan is available to new and current iPhone users with qualifying disabilities through AT&T’s National Center for Customers with Disabilities. To qualify for the iPhone TAP, customers must complete an application for eligibility. The form is available for download at http://www.wireless.att.com/about/disability-resources/text-accessibility-plan-for-iphone.jsp.

Current iPhone customers who qualify also may submit the NCCD application to request the TAP for iPhone. Customers may call the AT&T NCCD with questions at 866-241-6568 for voice calls or 866-241-6567 for TTY calls.



Edmond Allstate agent receives volunteerism award

Exclusive Allstate Agent Heath Anderson received the Agency Hands in the Community award for his commitment to helping others in his area. With this award comes a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation for Greyhound Pets of America — Central Oklahoma Chapter where Anderson volunteers.

“Allstate is proud to help Greyhound Pets of America — Central Oklahoma Chapter with its cause,” said Denis Bailey, field vice president for Allstate’s Southwest region.

Through the Agency Hands in the Community grant program, Allstate agents and personal financial representatives are recognized for outstanding commitment to community service with a $500 donation to the charitable organization where they volunteer. To qualify for the grant, agents and personal financial representatives must show evidence of volunteer work that has had a positive impact on the local community.

Anderson’s agency is at 3233 E. Memorial Rd., Suite 106C in Edmond.



The American Lamb Board announces grant program

The American Lamb Board is now soliciting applications for its Matching Grant Program. The deadline for receiving grant applications is June 30. A total of $20,000 is available to fund Matching Grant Programs.

The industry Matching Grant Program was designed to fund projects and activities that promote American lamb and further the goals and objectives of the American Lamb Board’s Strategic Plan. The funds only can be used to promote American Lamb. All promotional materials will be required to include an American Lamb Board reference.

Edmond Medical Center names new employees

Edmond Medical Center recently announced the hiring of three new employees: Erin Prater will serve as associate in Food and Nutrition Services; Roger Smith in Environmental Services; and Joseph Williams in Rehabilitation.

A medical center for more than 60 years, Edmond Medical Center combines state-of-the-art technology with compassionate care for the residents of Edmond, northern Oklahoma County and southern Logan County. EMC is an HCA facility and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. It has more than 300 physicians on staff representing more than 50 specialties, 500 employees and 90 members of the volunteer auxiliary.



Annual Farmers Conference set for OKC

Langston University will have its 17th annual Farmers Conference on May 21-23 in the auditorium at Langston University’s Oklahoma City Campus. The campus is at 4205 N. Lincoln Boulevard, about 2 miles north of the state Capitol.

The theme of the conference is “Sustaining Small Farms and Ranches.” Topics will include legal issues in agriculture, alternative enterprises, livestock management, forage management, marketing, USDA programs and services, and gardening. Also, information on working with Heifer International will be provided.

Additionally, four farmers and ranchers will be honored as “Farmers of the Year” at the conference.

The free conference will be preceded by two tours at 1:30 p.m. May 21: one to the Langston University research facilities and the other to several enterprises within Oklahoma County.
