EDMOND One Edmond resident created a line of supplements and drinks to help people recover from physical activity or a strenuous workout.

Dan Dodson, who earned a doctorate in health and human performance from Oklahoma State University, created pr2Systems (performance, rehydrate, recovery) after researching recovery during the course of five to seven years for his dissertation.

“There are a lot of supplements out there that promote recovery,” Dodson said. “Based upon my research, I put together what I thought was the optimum recovery system.”

He has worked for 16 years as an athletic trainer at the collegiate and professional levels and was the head athletic trainer for the Harlem Globetrotters and Langston University. Dodson currently is the director of research for sport and exercise science at the Bone and Joint Hospital.

The system offers the PR2 Protein and the PR2 Amino Acid supplements with a tropical punch flavor. It also offers a 30-day supply of PR2 capsules with a rich concentration of glutamine and branched chain amino acids to accelerate muscle recovery.

“We’ve had people that have seen it, tried it and liked it,” Dodson said. “It has less sugar than chocolate milk. It has less than 1 gram of fat and mixes well with water.”

Customers can buy PR2 Protein and PR2 Amino Acid in a 30 serving bottle of supplements for $75.97 or a single serving that comes in a 12 pack of individual bottles for $35.87.

“The branch chain amino acid is a more efficient way for the body to recover,” Dodson said. “It’s the building blocks the body can’t meet.”

He said most people usually aren’t receiving the right amount of amino acids from their diet. The PR2 Amino Acid contains a superior concentration of glutamine and branched chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine in combination with glucosamine and MSM for joint health.

The PR2 Protein is a NCAA-compliant nutritional supplement and various teams, including the University of Oklahoma and Baylor University men’s basketball teams use it. Cole Provence, a four-time national wrestling champion from the University of Central Oklahoma, also uses the product.

“The PR2 is nice because it’s in the bottles and we can just shake them up,” said Charlie Melton, men’s basketball strength coach at Baylor University. “This one allows you take it to any environment.”

He said the players like the fact that it’s not like other milk-based supplements, which don’t always taste or mix well. Melton said PR2 easily can be mixed with Gatorade or water and the fruit punch flavor tastes better than a vanilla or chocolate protein shake after a workout.

“The profile of the nutrients in it is unbeatable,” Melton said. “PR2 doesn’t have fat and, in addition, it has 13 grams of fiber.”

One unique aspect of Dodson’s system is that it is manufactured in his hometown.

“I love the fact that my manufacturing company is here in Edmond. It’s all about boosting the economy,” he said. “You want to be able to control the quality of the ingredients.”

The products are steroid and stimulant free and are routinely tested to adhere to that credibility.
