Longtime cosmetic store offers new 'open sell' concept

EDMOND — Merle Norman Cosmetics, 306 S. Bryant Ave., Suite E, recently underwent a store redesign that features an “open sell” environment with an interior design that includes inviting and functional fixtures.

The store was redone from top to bottom with new carpeting, ceiling and wall units, which allow products to be merchandised at eye level.

“It lets people see at a glance all the things we have to offer,” said Anita Haddock, store owner.

She said the old design was pretty but the front counter extended all the way to the wall blocking customers from the back of the store. Also, the shelves only lined two walls and now they line three walls.

“Look how beautiful it is,” commented longtime customer Carissa Candler, who saw the new store design for the first time Tuesday.

Candler said she received her first makeover from Haddock and has been a customer of the store since the early 1980s. She said the new design is more open and allows her better access to cosmetic products.

“When I run errands this is my last stop because it’s my treat for the day,” Candler said.

Haddock said she bought an existing studio 32 years ago and moved it to Bryant Square Shopping Center 27 years ago. During the years, she has kept her studio updated with current Merle Norman trends.

The new design is pretty and updated, Haddock said. The new concept allows customers to sample products at the seasonal test counter and sit and relax in the consultation area.

Merle Norman Cosmetics is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. regularly Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday through the holiday season.
