The University of Central Oklahoma Small Business Development Center’s (SBDC) September workshops are now available for sign-up, offering small business owners help in areas including business planning, how to develop effective logos and branding, how to build your own Web site and the responsibilities of payroll taxes.
• From 1-4 p.m. Sept. 1, the “How to Build a Web site” workshop will teach participants how to get their business online by building their own professional-looking Web site, and upon completion, will launch their free, three-page starter Web site.
Participants are asked to bring their laptop, digital copies of their business logo and several digital pictures. Computers will be provided for those without a laptop.
• From 2-4:30 p.m. Sept. 2, from 6-8:30 p.m. Sept. 16. and from 2-4:30 p.m. Sept. 30, the “Business Planning 101” workshop will help participants create and begin a business plan, while significantly focusing on how to read financial projections. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptop so they may begin working on their plan during the workshop.
• From 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 24, the “Logos and Branding” workshop will help participants develop or update their business’ logo or brand while learning techniques to make their business name stand out from the rest. Class size is limited.
• From 1-4 p.m. Sept. 28, the “Employment Taxes and Credits” workshop will help businesses understand the responsibilities of payroll taxes by learning the different types of employment taxes for both federal and Oklahoma, and their impact on your business.
The workshop also will give participants an understanding of how items such as 401k’s, garnishments and insurance impact employment taxes, when payments are due and how to complete forms 940, 941 and other important tax forms. Further information about new tax credits available to employers will be covered during the workshop as well.
Each workshop costs $59 to attend, with the exception of “Business Planning 101” which costs $49.
The workshops “Logos and Branding,” “Employment Taxes and Credits” and the Sept. 16 and 30 “Business Planning 101” will be held at Central’s SBDC at One Santa Fe Plaza in downtown Oklahoma City.
The “How to Build a Web site” workshop will be held at the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, and the Sept. 2 “Business Planning 101” workshop will be held at the Norman Chamber of Commerce.
