EDMOND —
The Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the success of community business leaders at its annual Awards banquet honoring the accomplishments of 2012.
Many of Edmond’s finest companies and citizens were honored as Edmond Electric presented Paint the Town Red on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.
“If we’re not constantly doing what is the best and what is the right thing for business, even if it’s not popular, even if it’s something that may get a little criticism, we’re not providing you the best service we can and we’re not moving things forward in competing our business, said Darin Kent, 2013 chairman of the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Woman of the Year Award presented to City Councilwoman Victoria Caldwell of RE/MAX Associates by Angie Johnson of Coppermark Bank and Karla McAlister, 2011 recipient.
“Edmond has been such an easy place to love and a wonderful place to serve,” Caldwell said. “I accept this honor on behalf of all four of us. I’ve gotten to know the other finalists and they’re just fabulous.”
Finalists for Woman of the Year were Deb Stanaland of the YWCA as well as Pam Kanaly and Shelly Williams, both of Arise Ministries.
Caldwell has been a mentor to women, McAlister said. She has taught business planning and goal setting. Caldwell is a member of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame. She has served in leadership roles of several REALTORs organizations including president of the Oklahoma Association of REALTORs. She is a graduate of Edmond Leadership and has served on the Edmond Visual Arts Coalition.
“She has helped Edmond grow and produce a future path that is bright,” McAlister said. Caldwell was also honored as one of the 2010 Journal Record Women of the Year.
Several former Citizen of the Year recipients watched as Dr. Krista Jones, DDS, was distinguished as the 2012 Citizen of the Year.
Carl Tipton, 2012 chairman of the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, presented the Chairman’s Award to Ron Decker, CEO of Innovative Healthcare Systems Inc. of Edmond.
Mark Neighbors of Parkway Cleaners accepted The Bank of Oklahoma Small Business of the Year Award. Finalists were Optique Vision Center and the Framin’ Gallery. The award was presented by Ryan L. Cross, senior vice president of the Bank of Oklahoma.
“It’s all a team effort; we all did this together and we really appreciate this honor,” Neighbors said.
Integris Health Edmond Volunteer Award recipient Sara Maulsby of Coppermark Bank worked tirelessly to make the 2012 Rio Carnival Auction a success, said Avilla Williams, hospital president.
Charles Oliver of Wells Fargo Advisors was award the Mercy Hospital Ambassador of the Year Award by Nick Niver of Mercy Hospital and Joe White, 2012 recipient. Twenty-five men and women volunteer their time to be the faces of the chamber.
The Tayo Fichtl Young Professional of the Year Award was presented by OU Medical Center Edmond to Angie Johnson of Coppermark Bank in memory of Fichtl, the late CEO of the medical center. The award was presented by Chuck Spicer, CEO of OU Medical System, and Darin Kent of Regent Bank, 2011 recipient.
