LAS VEGAS — Larry and Donna Shipman of Blanchard were recognized for having the “Heart of a Champion” during the Sport Clips Haircuts 20th Anniversary National Huddle in Las Vegas in mid-May. Sport Clips is the nation’s leading men’s and boys’ hair care provider with more than 1,000 stores in 44 states.

The Shipmans, above at left, were named from among 10,000 team members system-wide and were recognized by Sport Clips’ founder and CEO Gordon Logan, right, for embodying Sport Clips’ Values Statement that calls team members “do what’s right, do your best, and treat others the way they want to be treated.”

The Shipmans, who own 10 Sport Clips locations in the greater-Oklahoma City area including the store in Edmond, have been sponsors of the Special Olympics in Oklahoma for more than 35 years. For the past 13 years, they have helped underwrite the organization’s winter games in Norman.

They are also active sponsors of House of Healing, a home for single, pregnant teenage girls; Calm Waters, a nonprofit that provides counseling for children who have lost a parent; Boys’ Home in Edmond; and Able Sheltered Workshop, an organization to help those with mental disabilities have work and a group home. Larry also serves on the board of the International Association of Drilling Contractors through which he helped create a scholarship fund for oil field employees’ children that has now passed the $1 million mark in college scholarships.
