EDMOND —
ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Oklahoma City recently unveiled ProCureOKC.com, a high-definition, video-rich online network intended to increase knowledge and awareness of proton therapy, an alternative to traditional radiation that specifically targets cancerous tissue while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue, resulting in less risk for side effects.
Located at www.ProCureOKC.com, the online channel has easy-to-navigate sections featuring an overview of proton therapy, personal patient stories, physician interviews and an in-depth look at the types of cancer treated with proton therapy, including prostate, pediatric, head and neck, brain, lymphoma, anal and lung cancers.
“From diagnosis and exploring treatment options to the completion of treatment and recovery, this channel provides an outlet for our patients to share their story and allow viewers an authentic, step-by-step glimpse into a patient’s cancer journey,” said Sameer Keole, medical director of ProCure in Oklahoma City.
Since opening in July 2009, ProCure has treated patients from 29 states and 11 countries. From Seiling to Birmingham, England, video teams spanned the state and the world to capture footage of ProCure patients in their hometown environment following treatment.
One patient featured on the video channel is Gary Bridwell of Edmond. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, Bridwell turned to ProCure Proton Therapy Center to receive treatment. As the owner of family owned Ditch Witch dealerships in Oklahoma and Arkansas, he didn’t want his treatments to get in the way of his job.
Instead, due to the few side effects associated with proton therapy, Bridwell learned he was able to easily drive to ProCure for treatments in the morning and then continue on to work. He said he even found mornings where he could sneak in a round of golf with his new friends. “I’m back where I was before I was diagnosed,” Bridwell said. “I get to say cancer neither slowed me down nor got in my way. I’m thankful I chose ProCure and that proton therapy gave me the opportunity to be the same, healthy person again.”
ProCure Treatment Centers Inc. is a privately held health care company specializing in proton therapy. For more information, visit procure.com/ok.
