EDMOND —
Edmond residents Althea D. Hall, Jama Holman-West and Chrisa Schimmels recently were honored by the Social Security Administration.
The DDD Training Module was presented with a Regional Commissioner’s Team Award Citation. Members of the module include Hall, Steve Chelf, Christy Cutliff-Perkins, Brian Freshour, Holman-West, Schimmels and Carrie Sikes. The team was cited for providing maximum quality service to administering national Social Security programs.
Hall is programs administrator with the Disability Determination Division of the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services. Hall has 17 years of service with DRS Disability Determination Division.
Holman-West is programs manager II with the Disability Determination Division of the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services. Holman-West has 19 years of service with DRS Disability Determination Division.
A revised training model was developed to meet the expanding needs of DDD to produce capable examiners by the end of a 12–month training cycle. To accomplish this, the training module was revamped to provide a smaller ratio of examiners to trainers, one case consultant to four or five trainees. A new curriculum was introduced that involved primary case development training being done by the training supervisors with the assistance of the medical consultant staff for medical component training.
Since 2008 the retention rate has been 94.1 percent for new hires, with the majority of them meeting performance standards by the end of 12- month training. This training approach gives the examiner more opportunity for consistent training and immediate feedback, which is designed to produce better examiners at earlier stages.
