Di Smalley is no stranger to the spotlight. From her multitude of speaking engagements, including an address to the American Hospital Association in Washington, D.C., next year, to TV interviews and community roundtables, Mercy’s regional president lives up to her commitment to represent the voice of health care on a national level.
“We can’t ignore the health care access issues facing families across our country,” Smalley said. “We must be strong as we navigate through this time of change and transition, addressing shrinking funding and rising costs. Health care leaders cannot afford to be the silent majority.”
And, national health care associations are listening closely. Last month Smalley was recognized by two leading health care organizations for her leadership. Becker’s Hospital Review listed Smalley as one of 120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know and Sooner Healthcare Executives, a state chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, named her Senior Executive of the Year.
In a news release announcing the list, Becker’s said, “The women featured in this list have demonstrated a proven ability to lead their respective organizations in midst of healthcare’s challenging environment. They have demonstrated considerable skill and promise despite times of uncertainty and unprecedented change in the industry. ACHE Oklahoma State Regent Ed Hamilton, FACHE, presented Smalley with the Senior Executive of the Year Regent’s Award Nov. 2.
“She’s an excellent business woman leading Mercy in Oklahoma, a mentor and one who truly leads by example,” Hamilton said. “We are so very proud of Di being on a national stage and leading a premier health care association like the American College of Healthcare Executives. We presented this award to show her our gratitude and appreciation for a job well done.”
