EDMOND — If you are looking for western wear, you don’t have to look any further. Tener’s Western Outfitters opened its second store in the metro area on Broadway in Edmond.

Moving into 12,000 square feet of retail space in November, Jack Shi, store manager, and Mike Hughes, operations manager, have brought with them a staff of well-trained, knowledgeable and friendly sales people.

Hughes is the third generation of a family in the retail business and attended the University of Central Oklahoma. “When we saw this opportunity open, we jumped,” Hughes said. “Tener’s opened in 1930 in the Stock Yards area and moved to the Oklahoma City location in the mid-seventies.”

In addition to a great staff, Tener’s has  brought recognized brand names and styles ranging from work wear to high fashion.

“With one-third of the inventory available,” Shi said, “and excluding work boots, we have more than 1,000 pairs of men’s boots, 800 pairs of women’s’ boots and 300 pair of children’s boots to choose from on the shelves.”

Boot brands include handmade Lucchese boots for both men and women with the women’s line also carrying Old Gringo, another handmade brand.

“We have plans for more handmade boot lines to be added in the future,” Shi said.

Boot lines for both men and women include Anderson Bean, Justin, Ferrini, Ariat, Twisted X and Cinch to name a few.

“From high fashion to function, everything from work to play, we cater to all aspects and every need of western wear for the consumer,” Hughes said.

Ladies boots can be adorned with stitching, inlays, different colors, sequins, studs, stitching and Swarovski crystals.

“Our boots we are carrying at this time are made from calf skin, ostrich, crocodile, shark and lizard,” Shi said, “with different heel sizes as well as square, round and pointed toes.”

Hughes added when a boot is properly fit there is better arch support and it helps with posture besides just feeling good.

“We fit the toe, ball and arch, when sizing a boot for a customer,” Hughes said. “If all three are correct the foot is allowed to be in a natural position.”

Tener’s has been repairing boots for more than 30 years. As an extension of that tradition, they’ve created an official in-store boot repair department, staffed with experts who pride themselves on decades of experience.

If your footwear needs some love call 1-800-654-6715 and ask for Boot Repair for prices. Miscellaneous leather work (purses, belts, bats, etc.) has a $10 minimum and all repairs must be paid in advance.

No western outfit is complete without a hat, and Tener’s sports a hat bar right in the center of the store with hats for any season and head size.

For work wear FR (fire retardent) Wrangler and Cinch jeans and shirts are available. Just about everything that is carried in the men’s line including jeans has a counterpart in the ladies department with a few additions.

Western fashion for women includes dresses, vests, tops and jackets as well as numerous brands of jeans including Wrangler, Cinch, Ariat, Rock ‘N Roll Denim, Crew Girl, Miss Me, Vigoss and Big Star.

“From the fashion aspect, western wear for ladies has just exploded,” Hughes said. “Customers are mixing and matching tops and accessorizing with everything from turquoise to pearls. From the working arena to the ballroom, we have you covered.”

Accessories include purses, wallets, cologne and jewelry.

A shoe shine stand more than 100 years old with marble and a stained glass inset on the side still sports a sign saying, “Shoe shines 50 cents” although the price of a shine today is $8 a pair for a shine.

“Edmond has a great consumer base with great organizations and high schools that are active in the community,” Hughes said, “and we are glad to be part of the community. … we would like to encourage you to stop in and say hello.”

With lay-away 20 percent down and a 90-day pay-off, customers may choose to pay out a special item.
