EDMOND —
A recently released economic impact report proves Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry is the heartbeat that keeps this state pumping out jobs and tax revenue. Therefore, the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board will hit the airwaves with new messaging, reflecting the results of that economic impact report.
Two advertisements, “These Hands” and “Heartbeat” make their premiere during the 2012 London Olympics over the next couple of weeks.
“The latest economic impact report gave us some important numbers, enlightening numbers,” said Pete Brown, OERB Public Education Committee Chairman. “Over the last two years, while much of the nation’s economy was idle or suffering, Oklahoma’s oil and natural gas industry was strong, even growing.”
It’s that message that will be reflected in the new campaign. The public will hear about the more than $2 billion in tax revenue generated by the industry, the 350,000 jobs supported by oil and natural gas and the economic impact of $52 billion in gross state product.
“You’re talking about an industry that added 12,000 jobs over the last two years while most of the nation was at a standstill,” Brown said.
“Hands” pinpoints the various people around the state that make the oil and natural gas industry successful. “Heartbeat” will focus on the industry’s commitment to communities large and small around the state.
The new campaign will launch with ads during the Olympics and run for numerous weeks with support from print, radio and Internet advertising. Additional information including news stories, blogs and web videos tied to the campaign will be found at OERB.com/advancingenergy.
Created by the Oklahoma Legislature in 1993, the OERB is funded voluntarily by oil and natural gas producers and royalty owners through a one-tenth of 1 percent assessment on the sale of oil and natural gas. The OERB’s purpose is to conduct environmental restoration of orphaned and abandoned well sites and to educate Oklahomans about energy. For more information visit OERB.com.
