EDMOND —
Edmond resident Matt Burns, Southwest public affairs market leader for the public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller, was named to PRWeek’s 40 Under 40, the company announced this week.
Every year, PRWeek, a leading public relations trade publication, honors 40 of the top communications professionals in the industry under 40 years of age. Burson-Marsteller Worldwide Executive Vice President Jay Leveton also was named to the list.
“It is a mark of our strength to have two members of our firm named to PRWeek’s annual ‘40 under 40’ list,” said Burson-Marsteller Worldwide CEO Donald A. Baer. “Matt is a trusted counselor and leader, and he is working hard to grow our public affairs business in the Southwest. I could not think of two people more deserving.”
Burns joined Burson-Marsteller in June 2012 as Southwest public affairs market leader and managing director in the U.S. Public Affairs Practice. Burns has served as a trusted counselor for senior corporate executives, major political organizations and government agencies.
Prior to joining Burson-Marsteller, Burns was director of corporate communications for UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement, where he led public relations and the alignment of communications activities with internal communications, legal, government affairs, regulatory, marketing and sales functions. Earlier in his career, Burns also served as director of communications for the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., acting as the convention’s chief media strategist and spokesman.
Burns obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Monmouth University in New Jersey, and he is an executive MBA candidate through IE Business School and Brown University.
