EDMOND —
An Edmond pharmacy recently got an Americans with Disabilities Act compliance update totaling nearly $2 million.
Work on the CVS Pharmacy at 1520 S. Bryant Ave. began in June, according to applications filed with the City of Edmond.
The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment and includes public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation and telecommunications.
Mike DeAngelis, a spokesman for the pharmacy chain, said the work was done on the store’s MinuteClinic, which is inside the pharmacy.
“We created additional space for the nurse practitioners examination room and widened access to the restroom,” DeAngelis said, “to ensure that those areas are in compliance.”
The clinic serves an affordable alternative to an emergency room visit for physicals, vaccinations and certain illness diagnosis. DeAngelis said the clinics work in connection with one’s primary doctor for medical work.
In the U.S. there are 600 MinuteClinics, including four in Oklahoma.
“It's something we’re doing as part of our normal review of our facilities,” he said.
Records show BIG Services Inc., a Crawford, Ga., based contractor, did the update, which had an estimated cost of $1.99 million for the interior remodel.
CVS Pharmacy is part of CVS Caremark, a Rhode Island-based company that has about 7,000 pharmacies in the U.S., including 45 in Oklahoma, according to the company’s website.
