Lawn Doctor opens in Edmond

EDMOND — Jodi Lewis came by a love for agriculture naturally. Wanting to share her knowledge with her neighbors she recently opened her own business as a franchisee for Lawn Doctor.

Growing up on a small farm in Bristow her father taught agriculture in the local school district.

“I received a degree in agribusiness at Oklahoma State University and had classes in horticulture,” Lewis said.

Lewis spent five years in rural economic and development spending her last year as executive director of an association before leaving in 2009 to have her son, Bauer.

“I have been looking for a business to combine my horticulture and agriculture experience, and my husband and I wanted to stay in the Edmond area,” Lewis said.

In seeking a way to serve her neighbors in Edmond Lewis discovered there was no Lawn Doctor established in the area.

Lewis said a beautifully kept, well-manicured lawn can increase a home’s value and for families trying to sell their home, curb appeal might make that home sale go more quickly.

Fertilizer, weed, pest control, tree and shrub maintenance as well as perimeter pest control for fleas and ticks, fire ants and grubs are part of the services Lewis offers.

“Lawn Doctor’s lawn service experts are your neighbors, so we understand your climate, your soil conditions and even those peculiar twists in weather that only seem to happen in a 10-mile radius of your home,” Lewis said.

Agribusiness with a professional background and personal touch are what Lewis offers.

“We come out, test the soil and make recommendations from there,” Lewis said. “The great thing is you get me as the owner of the franchise.”

You also get the Lawn Doctor brand, their agronomists and horticulturists who have seen it all.

Her husband David helps out in the evenings and on the weekends by doing the fertilizer and pre-emergence treatments.

Starting from the ground up, the Lawn Doctor’s grand opening was a week ago at the Oklahoma City Home and Garden Show.

“We recommend seven treatments a year for fertilizer and weed control,” Lewis said, “so if you haven’t made plans for this year now is the time to do so.”

Her plan is to service the Edmond and Oklahoma City areas by 2013, which may sound ambitious but with Lewis’s background she plans on turning her new business into a job creation endeavor.

Prior to building a home in Edmond in 2010 she worked for the Oklahoma Community Institute and served on the Piedmont City Council, becoming the youngest person elected in the municipality’s history.
