9Round: Total body workout in 30 minutes

EDMOND — Looking for a Valentine’s gift that most anyone would appreciate whether they need to get fit or already are? A new specialized fitness center that offers a unique, fun and proven workout guaranteeing results recently has opened in Edmond.

9Round had its grand opening two weeks ago, and the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce had the 9Round ribbon-cutting Tuesday.

The 9Round circuit is fast and challenging so members stay engaged while getting in their best shape. The 30-minute program is structured in a circuit format, with the client spending 3 minutes at each station.

A good workout can burn up to 500 calories in 30 minutes, said Shannon Hudson, founder and CEO of 9Round Franchising LLC.

The workout is never boring as it changes constantly and a trainer is always available to motivate the clients.

“A 9Round workout is fun, fast-paced and keeps your interest,” said Edmond franchise owner Kendall McGowan. “It is a convenient circuit format with no class times and is a full body exercise with results in just 30 minutes. We always have a trainer on hand for guidance and motivation.”

Walk-ins are welcome but in order to experience the first 30-minute session free, call ahead for an appointment.

The sign-up fee will be reduced to $14 for those signing up on Valentine’s Day and the first month’s cost of $49 includes hand wraps and gloves, a 9Round Nutrition Guide, online support and a key tag to check in with. Specials will be offered throughout the year.

“At this time a member’s immediate family members can join for half price,” McGowan said.

Clients should wear comfortable clothing but tennis shoes are required when working out.

Shannon Collins, 9Round manager, said, “With our 30-minute kickbox fitness workout, you get the personal attention without the high price. The workout is done on your time, no class times and a trainer at all times. We are able to modify the program to fit your needs.”

Everyone is encouraged to have a fighter name.

Kristen Snethen, the mother of three children, started working out a few weeks ago.

“I came in and tried the free workout,” Snethen said. “I thought it might be a little intimidating but everyone is so nice. I went home and told my husband John about it and he tried it out and joined also.”

Kristen goes by K Dawg while working out, is 29 years old and had a stroke four years ago.

“Anyone can do this and the trainers will help you modify the workouts until you are able to go that next step,” Kristen said.

Both Kristen and her husband are runners, and she said in just three weeks she can tell a difference in her running.

“I am running faster and running longer,” Kristen said. “There is something about doing this that is empowering. It is also addicting.”

9Round is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The facility is closed from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“What sets us apart in the fitness industry is the personal attention you get,” Hudson said, without the high price of a personal trainer. Every program at 9Round includes a trainer at no extra charge who provides guidance for every workout.

The circuit allows clients to start the minute they walk in the door with a new workout session beginning every 3 minutes.

“My idea is to offer the benefits of boxing and kickboxing training without getting hit,” Hudson said. “Our mission is to get America fit, nine rounds at a time.”

9Round is at 1010 N. Santa Fe. To schedule a free, 30-minute session call 562-1836.
