EDMOND — Come sleep the night away with a purchase from the newly opened Mathis Sleep Studio.

Joining the cadre of Mathis Sleep Studios springing up across Oklahoma is the Edmond store at 401 Comfort Drive, south of 33rd Street on Broadway, which opened Aug. 9. The 12,000-square-foot store has three full-time employees.

Other local stores include one opened in Oklahoma City in 2010 and a second opened in Norman in July. Other stores have opened, are in various stages of completion or are still on the drawing board at this time.

“It is all about convenience for the consumer,” said Kerry Tramel, spokesman for Mathis Sleep Studio.

“Sleep studios are basically for consumer convenience and help meet that need by bringing their mattress store closer to where they live.”

An Edmond location was an absolute must, Tramel said.

“When we made our list Edmond was right at the top,” he said. “Edmond and Norman were started pretty close together.”

With another facility at the Outlet Shoppes off I-40 scheduled to be finished in mid-November, it will follow the opening of a newly opened store in Broken Arrow.

“Hopefully this location off I-40 will afford us a high-traffic store,” Tramel said.

Tramel said the Sleep Studios offer the largest selection of mattresses in the area.

“With more than 60 models to choose from, combined with the best brand names and the most competitive pricing, we are going to back up each sale with the Mathis Brothers name and service,” Tramel said.

Adding Mathis Brothers has been in business for more than 50 years, the Sleep Studio consultants will continue the atmosphere of treating everyone well, along with a low-pressure but highly educated sales force whose purpose is to make mattress purchasing an easier, more informed process.

With more than half the models on the floor power-based and user friendly, what was once thought of as a bed for older people and people in hospital settings has now become popular with the younger set.

“The more people that read a book, surf the Internet and watch television, the more conducive a power-based type of bed is for their needs,” said Robert Warren, one of the sleep consultants at Mathis Sleep Studio.

Pillows are an important part of having a relaxing night of sleep and waking up rested in the morning.

“Pillows are a very important part of the purchase,” Warren said. “Buying the correct pillow to line up with the way you sleep is extremely important.”

Mathis Sleep Studio also can fill that need whether looking for a pillow for a side sleeper, back sleeper or a face-in-the-pillow sleeper.

Tramel said the Mathis Sleep Studios do not have special sales throughout the year.

“We literally have everyday low prices,” Tramel said. “That is what Mathis Brothers was built on and we adhere to that philosophy. Our manufacturers have promotions which we will pass on to the customer. You don’t have to wait on a holiday for our everyday low prices.”

Six brands of mattresses are sold — Eco Comfort, Lady Americana, Sealy, Serta, Stearns & Foster and Tempur Pedic.

With something for everyone, price ranges for mattresses start at $78 for a twin mattress up to $8,000 at the Edmond store, although prices can go to as high as $15,000.

More than half of the models sold are delivered for free in the metro area.

“At Mathis Brothers Sleep Studios you’ll find a spa-like, relaxing environment focused entirely on sleep, the largest selection of brand names in the state for you to try, highly trained sleep consultants whose only interest is helping you choose the type of mattress and comfort level that’s right for you, and exclusive 365-night comfort and double the difference price guarantees,” Tramel said.

“We are happy to be in Edmond.”

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
