The Edmond Sun
America’s 78 million Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964, began turning 65 in 2010 at a rate of one every 10 seconds (3-4 million per year) according to the CQ (Congressional Quarterly) Press. Boomers have long been famous for their desire to be young.
In a society where baby boomers are aging and will continue to do so, one Edmond woman is redefining the definition of ‘help’ for seniors.
“I have been a nursing home administrator for 25 years,” said Diana Hendrix, owner of the newly opened Guardian Angels Concierge Service, “and I have seen so many people who have tried to come into assisted living or a nursing home and didn’t really want to do that. I wanted to give them another choice. For those who don’t really want to go or are not ready to leave their homes, Guardian Angels can help them stay in their home longer.”
This is possible by Guardian Angels Senior Concierge Services helping seniors and their families have increased freedom and peace of mind.
“Our concierge services for seniors fill a niche allowing our clients to relax and enjoy time with their family and friends without worrying about day-to-day matters,” said Hendrix.
“We are an independent agency and come to your home or apartment.”
For seniors, young or old, wanting to avoid nursing homes or assisted living facilities, staying at home and having help come to them is a possibility for Edmond residents.
Guardian Angels provides in-home help from managing medical appointments, to shopping and light housework or more mundane tasks such as laundry or helping with pets.
From light meal planning, medical or dental visits (using client’s vehicle) or ordering and picking up medications to personal shopping or taking the client to the library, or to hair and nail appointments, the list is endless as to the services Guardian Angels offers.
“Guardian Angels provides professional, nonmedical concierge services and assistance for seniors that just need a helping hand to simplify and enhance their lives,” Hendrix said.
Seniors are able to remain connected to their homes, church, communities and families while maintaining their independent lifestyle.
Hendrix said some of the signs an older family member may need the company’s service include: Declining ability to drive, signs of depression, decreased interest in meals and changes in appearance and personal hygiene.
Services are available for a few hours, daily, weekly or monthly as needed and may be purchased by the hour or in larger blocks of time at a reduced rate. The basic rate is $30 per hour and payment is by cash, check or all major credit cards.
The service area includes Edmond and the Oklahoma City area.
“This is an alternative for those who have a one-time need for assistance with a few services,” Hendrix said.
Business hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Although closed on weekends and holidays, services may be available beyond normal business hours, weekends and holidays for additional fees and prior arrangement.
