Credit union rewards savers
In honor of America Saves Week, a national movement encouraging saving, debt reduction and wealth building, FAA Credit Union encouraged members to come up with creative ways to save for 2010. Five members with the most creative entries each received a $100 deposit into their savings account.
In total, the credit union received almost 100 ideas, ranging from adding a roof that will recycle water to avoiding the mall.
Each day the credit union shared the winning ideas with their membership through their Facebook page and Twitter feed. Here are the top five ideas:
• Instead of eating out for lunch, take five dollars in cash every day and deposit it into a special account.
• Give yourself a monthly spending allowance and stop spending when it’s gone.
• Plant a garden for your own fruits and vegetables and sell the extras at a local farmers market.
• Use coupons at the store, then take the savings and deposit into an account.
• Pay more attention to gas mileage by keeping tires inflated and driving slower.
This was the fourth year for America Saves Week. More information about America Saves Week can be found at www.americasavesweek.org.
