Girl Scouts–Western Oklahoma invites young professionals to ice cream social

Special to The Sun

OKLA. CITY — GS Cornerstone, the young professionals group of Girl Scouts-Western Oklahoma, is presenting a free ice cream social from 5:30-7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Kaiser’s American Bistro, at 1039 N. Walker Ave. in Oklahoma City.

Both male and female young professionals are invited to “Get the Scoop!” and learn about the year-round volunteer, leadership and networking opportunities available through GS Cornerstone. Girl Scout cookies and a variety of door prizes will be given away. Individuals who bring their friends will receive increased chances to win door prizes.

Established in 2010, GS Cornerstone empowers and engages young professionals to support GSWESTOK’s mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character. Members of GS Cornerstone have established GSWESTOK’s first Gold Award Scholarship Fund. Each year, the organization provides two $500 college scholarships to young women who have earned their Gold Award, the highest Girl Scout honor. The organization has set a goal of raising $20,000 to start an endowment for the scholarship fund. This past March, the group also organized the first “Earn Your Shopping Badge” event in partnership with merchants at Classen Curve to raise money for the Gold Award Scholarship Fund.

The GS Cornerstone annual membership fee is $50 and includes a ticket to GSWESTOK’s annual Cookies & Cocktails event ($25 value) and a national Girl Scout membership ($15 value).
