OKLA. CITY —
Devon Energy Corporation presented the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma with a gift of $936,600 in support of the month-long Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food and Fund Drive. This record-setting donation represents 72 percent of the total raised through the event, and will provide more than 4.68 million meals for Oklahomans who struggle with hunger.
“This incredibly generous gift couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “Devon Energy, and its employees, have shown tremendous leadership in the community as they continue to support feeding programs and disaster relief efforts.
“We want to thank Devon for their continued commitment to fighting hunger in our state.”
On May 21, more than 550 Devon Energy employees helped the Regional Food Bank by sorting and filling pantry boxes with canned food donations during the fifth annual “Stuff the Truck” event in downtown Oklahoma City. In a matter of six hours, Devon employees sorted 319,975 pounds of food into boxes — enough to fill nine tractor-trailers with food to help Oklahomans impacted by the May 19-20 tornadoes.
The work done by the Devon volunteers that day would have taken the Food Bank’s volunteer center about nine volunteer days to complete. That equates to a savings of nearly $5,000 in labor costs.
Devon Energy employees also volunteered at the Midwest City post office sites during the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive on May 11, and hundreds of Devon employees volunteer each month at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
“Our employees share the passion of the Regional Food Bank to eliminate hunger in Oklahoma,” said Devon’s Senior Vice President Vince White, who also serves on the Regional Food Bank Foundation Board. “We are honored to partner with the Regional Food Bank in their food drive every year. This is especially true this year as the need took on an even greater sense of urgency for those impacted by the recent tornadoes.”
As a Presenting Sponsor of the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food and Fund Drive, Devon and its employees have donated nearly 45,000 pounds of food and raised more than $5.4 million through this annual event over the last nine years.
