EDMOND — More than 80 state companies and several national companies will attend a hiring event for military members and veterans in Oklahoma in July.

The Oklahoma Military Connection hiring event is a state initiative sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education CareerTech for Vets program, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and the Oklahoma National Guard Employment Coordination. The agencies will present the hiring event for U.S. military veterans, transitioning service members and Guard and Reserve members from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 10 at the Broken Arrow Armed Forces Reserve Center.

Registration, available at, is required to ensure job seekers can be matched with career fields from the various employers. The goal is to make sure those who attend are pre-matched to companies that are compatible with their skills. Upon arrival at the event, individuals who register will receive a list of companies hiring in their selected fields.

Employers are encouraged to register as soon as possible so their jobs can be matched to soldiers who select specific career fields. The career fields vary from risk management, sales and information technology to food and beverage.

Pre-event workshops will help ensure attendees are prepared for the hiring event by focusing on interview preparation, résumé pointers and attire. The West Corporation will present a workshop from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 18 at the Tulsa Eastgate Workforce Center, 14002 E. 21st, Suite 1030. The Muskogee Workforce Office will present a workshop at 9 a.m. July 2 at 717 S. 32nd St., Muskogee. Registration is not required for the workshops.

Both employers and job-seekers can register for the hiring event at
