EDMOND — Members of the City Council voted 5-0 this week to close a short portion of Jackson Street right-of-way to allow for more parking at the Edmond Library.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church is to the east of Jackson and does not have an issue with the street’s closure, said Steve Commons, assistant city manager. The church as been pursuing a closure of the alley.

“About 17 new stalls can be added with these adjustments in the right-of-way,” Commons said.

City Planner Bob Schiermeyer said the 60-foot width of the street will be reserved as a utility easement.
