Sears at Quail Springs Mall closing doors

EDMOND — In anticipation of a January closing, Sears at Quail Springs Mall has begun liquidating its merchandise.

In a February announcement by General Growth Properties Inc., Sears at Quail on Memorial Road was one of 11 properties purchased by GGP for a cost of $270 million.

Sears has owned the 182,000-square-foot store at Quail Springs Mall since the mall was built in the early 1980s.

The other 10 properties included in the sale are Sears stores in Honolulu; Rochester, Minn., Bellingham, Wash., Coralville, Iowa; Murray, Utah; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Champaign, Ill.; Provo, Utah; Ocoee, Fla.; and The Woodlands, Texas. The sale was completed in April.

More than 40 Sears stores will still remain open in Oklahoma, including a store at 33rd and Broadway in Edmond.

When reached Thursday, David Keating, General Growth Properties vice president of corporate communications, said, “Right now, there’s no additional information that we’re providing other than what was in our February release. We’re still considering all the opportunities available to us.”

GGP owns 128 malls nationwide and 16 additional malls in Brazil.
